For Alyona, a teacher and CELTA tutor at London School of Languages, it happened much more naturally. \u201cIt was never a conscious decision,\u201d she explains. \u201cI was simply in love with the English language.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally from <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyiv<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Ukraine, Alyona\u2019s journey began as a student at a local academy. Her motivation was simple: she wanted to understand her favourite movies and songs in English. What started as curiosity quickly turned into commitment. After completing all the available levels at the academy, one of her teachers recognised her potential and encouraged her to start teaching. \u201cThat\u2019s how it all began,\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Building a Career in Teaching<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After gaining initial teaching experience, Alyona took the CELTA course in 2014, a turning point that would shape her professional future. She continued teaching for several years, but soon felt the need to grow further. \u201cI felt I needed a new challenge,\u201d she explains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That next step came when she joined a large school in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyiv<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where many colleagues held the DELTA qualification. Being surrounded by experienced teachers pushed her to aim higher: \u201cFrom the moment I started doing my DELTA, I knew I wanted to become a CELTA tutor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now approaching her fourth year at London School, Alyona has come full circle moving from student to teacher, and now to teacher trainer<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Intensity of CELTA Training<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Becoming a CELTA tutor is no small task. Alyona describes the training process as both rewarding and demanding: \u201cIt was exciting, but I\u2019m not going to lie, it was very intense.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She completed her training during an intensive four-week CELTA course, where time management and discipline were essential. With strict deadlines and a clearly structured programme, every day required focus and commitment. \u201cI always knew what I had to do each day, which helped a lot,\u201d she adds.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Challenge of Supporting New Teachers<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the most complex aspects of being a CELTA tutor is not just teaching, but guiding other teachers through their own development. \u201cThe most challenging part is finding the fine line when giving constructive feedback,\u201d Alyona explains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trainees are under pressure, working through a demanding course, and the tutor\u2019s role is to help them improve without overwhelming them: \u201cEveryone wants to improve, but at the same time, you have to be sensitive. They\u2019re going through a lot, and so are you as a tutor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What Makes CELTA Stand Out?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Alyona, two factors make CELTA one of the most respected teaching qualifications worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, its reputation:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou don\u2019t need to explain it to employers, everyone knows it. It\u2019s very prestigious.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second, its practical focus:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou learn new things in input sessions and then immediately have the chance to practise them in teaching practice. It\u2019s extremely hands-on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked to describe the course in just one word, her answer is immediate: \u201cLife-changing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Advice for Future CELTA Candidates<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those considering taking the course, Alyona\u2019s advice is clear and direct: \u201cGo for it. It\u2019s absolutely worth every minute of your time and every bit of effort.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, she also emphasises the importance of commitment, as these are intensive courses: \u201cDon\u2019t have any other commitments. It will take all your time, so don\u2019t try to work or do anything else alongside it.
